What can you expect to hear at a MMQ gig?

Like most jazz musicians playing standards, we rely heavily on the Great American Songbook, the enduring canon of 20th century popular songs written by Jerome Kern, Rodgers & Hart, Cole Porter and others. We play the familiar ones like “Fly Me to The Moon,” as well as lesser-heard gems like “I Guess I’ll Hang My Tears Out to Dry.”

You’ll also hear classic jazz tunes from greats like Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck and Miles Davis, as well as bossa nova tunes from Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Sometimes we put our spin on pop songs from the rock era, such as Elvis Costello’s “Almost Blue” and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” We play several originals, many with a retro vibe, written by our own George Gagliardi. And we love to play Christmas and holiday tunes during December.

Suffice it to say that every MMQ performance will feature a mix of swing, latin, ballads, and blues. You’ll hear some tunes you recognize and some that you won’t hear anywhere else.
